First thing's first. Miss the royal wedding? Watch it here in two minutes!

Now for the important part. THE DRESS! The Hindustantimes has a great photo gallery of shots of the gown if you don't recall its specifics. It did come out of the Alexander McQueen studio just as people had been speculating (see earlier blog entry).

What can I say about it? It's perfect. Not necessarily perfect for anyone else or any other occassion, but it is perfect here as the gown for the royal wedding. To an obective eye, it looks almost plain with no detailing on the skirt, especially for Alexander McQueen, but something flashy hardly would have been appropriate for Westminster Abbey. And, continuing in the view of appropriate dress, the over layer of lace is the perfect touch to bring the dress both up and down. It adds beauty and intricacy to the gown, keeping it from being boring, but also covers her shoulders and arms very modestly without making her look mummified. Or worse - reminiscient of Princess Di's sleeve explosion. The immense train was a must and I was pleased to see her gorgeous veil and I hope that more modern brides will strive to emulate her by wearing long, beautiful veils as well, reviving that "outdated" look.

Personally, I was hoping for something much more striking at first, but then my British sensibilities stirred and I saw the wisdom of this dress. It was classic without being "just plain old" and it was a very flattering silhouette on Kate, hitting her waist in just the right place.

Take note - this is how the church wedding dress is done!
